Most people underestimate Versailles, and the estate punishes it. The palace and Trianon are closed on Mondays; the park and gardens have their own opening calendar. On other mornings, the security line at the palace gate can build as visitors arrive. The grounds are vast: the palace, the Trianons, the gardens and Marie-Antoinette’s hamlet are a full day on their own, not a quick stop.
The move is to leave Paris early and arrive near opening, while the courtyards are still calm. If waiting is included in your programme, your chauffeur stays nearby until the agreed end time; plan pickup points around the gardens and Trianons before you set off. On fountain-show weekends we time the drive so you are not rushing. About twenty kilometres west of Paris, thirty to fifty minutes by road depending on traffic.
